About our fitness director

Dwight is our fitness director, a personal trainer, health coach and corrective exercise specialist, coaching since 2015.

He became a trainer so people would stop being afraid of trainers.

The first 3 clients

I started in 2015 at a big box gym with no mentor and no roadmap. The first 3 clients assigned to me were a 72 year old man who was legally blind, a below the knee amputee, and a 25 year old stroke survivor with limited movement down one side. My honest first thought was that I had picked the wrong job. It was overwhelming. So I learned what nobody had taught me, one client at a time, and got all 3 of them moving better than when they started.

Then the referrals started

Other trainers began sending over the clients they did not want to work with, and that quietly became the job. Multiple clients with scoliosis. A woman in her 40s who shuffled when she walked, from degenerating disks in her lumbar spine, after a doctor told her she would never jump again, not even off a curb. She jumped. Since then the list has kept growing: polio, pelvic floor dysfunction after childbirth, a knee replacement in her 30s, frozen shoulder, an elbow after surgery, a degenerating hip, a torn ACL, a torn calf, a long run of neck injuries, and bone cancer.

The 81 year old golfer

She came to me with 6 screws in her lumbar spine and a year of bed rest behind her. Tying her own shoe was impossible. She wanted to play golf again, which is close to the worst goal you can pick for a back like hers, because of the torque in the swing. I was honest with her about how hard it would be, then we started. On day one she could bend far enough to touch the top of her knees. 8 months later she could touch her toes, and she was back on the course. She was so consistent that she stopped needing me. 3 months after that she came back, because those young 60 and 70 year old golfers were out driving her.

Why the work is online now

When the pandemic hit I opened my own training studio, built entirely around this kind of client. It was a risk and it paid off. After selling it a few years later I moved everything online, because too many online programs are cookie cutter plans that ignore your goals, your nagging injuries and your imbalances. Find Your Fitness Inc. builds every program around your injuries, your equipment, your schedule and your goals, then adjusts as your body responds.

In the press

Dwight has been interviewed by Bold Journey, VoyageLA and CanvasRebel, and on the GymLaunch podcast, usually about the cases most trainers will not take on.

More people deserve real direction, from someone who has already worked with a version of whatever they are dealing with.
